[1277] "It is, friend, because of having developed and made much of the four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna) that I have attained to greatness of direct knowledge (mahābhiññatta). Which four? Here, friend, I dwell contemplating the body in the body, ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world. Regarding feelings (vedanā) … regarding the mind (citta) … I dwell contemplating dhammas in dhammas, ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world. It is, friend, because of having developed and made much of these four establishments of mindfulness that I have attained to greatness of direct knowledge. And it is, friend, because of having developed and made much of these four establishments of mindfulness that I directly know the thousandfold world."
