[845] Bhikkhus, there are these five faculties (indriya). What five? The faculty of faith (saddhindriya), the faculty of energy (vīriyindriya), the faculty of mindfulness (satindriya), the faculty of concentration (samādhi) (samādhindriya), and the faculty of wisdom (paññindriya). When, bhikkhus, a noble disciple (ariyasāvaka) understands as it really is the origin, the passing away, the gratification, the danger, and the escape in regard to these five faculties, this noble disciple, bhikkhus, is called a stream-enterer (sotāpanna), no longer liable to the states of ruin, fixed in destiny, with full awakening as his destination.
