Suttapiṭaka · Saṁyuttanikāya · Mahāvaggasaṁyutta · Vol. 19 · Section 988

[988] "Bhikkhus, it is because one faculty (indriya) has been developed and cultivated that a bhikkhu whose taints (āsava) are destroyed declares final knowledge (aññā): 'I understand: Destroyed is birth, the holy life (brahmacariya) has been lived, what had to be done has been done, there is no more coming to any state of being.' Because of which one faculty? Because of the faculty of wisdom (paññindriya)." [Siam edition footnotes: ¹ Yu. reads nikkaṅkhāhaṃ. ² Yu. reads indriyassa.]
