Vinayapiṭaka · Bhikkhu Vibhaṅga (2) · Vol. 2 · Section 12

[12] **"When the robe is finished"** (*niṭṭhitacīvarasmiṃ*): the bhikkhu's¹ robe has been made, or has been lost, or has been destroyed, or has been burnt, or the expectation of a robe has been cut off. **"When the kaṭhina has been withdrawn"** (*ubbhatasmiṃ kaṭhine*): it has been withdrawn on one or another of the eight grounds (mātikā), or it has been withdrawn by the Saṅgha in the interim. **"If a bhikkhu should stay apart from the three robes even for a single night"**: if he has stayed apart even for a single night from the outer robe (saṅghāṭi), or from the upper robe (uttarāsaṅga), or from the lower robe (antaravāsaka). **"Except with the agreement of the bhikkhus"** (*aññatra bhikkhusammatiyā*): setting aside a bhikkhu who has the agreement (sammati) of the bhikkhus. **"It becomes subject to forfeiture"** (*nissaggiyaṃ hoti*): it becomes subject to forfeiture together with the rising of dawn; it must be forfeited to a Saṅgha, or to a group, or to an individual. "And thus, bhikkhus, should it be forfeited. That bhikkhu, having approached the Saṅgha, … should say: 'Venerable sirs, this robe of mine, which has stayed apart [from me] for a night, except with the agreement of the bhikkhus, is subject to forfeiture. I forfeit it to the Saṅgha.' … 'should give [it back]' … 'they should give [it back]' … 'I give [this] to the venerable one.'" ¹ Variant (Po.): *bhikkhunā*.
