[166] **"And when they have completed the rains"** means: bhikkhus who have completed the rains residence.
**"The Kattika full moon"**: this is called the Kattika full moon that completes the four months (kattikacātumāsinī).
**"Those lodgings which are in the forest"**: a lodging called "forest" is one at a distance of five hundred bow-lengths at the minimum.
**"Risky"** means: in the monastery or in the vicinity of the monastery, a place where thieves have camped is seen, a place where they have eaten is seen, a place where they have stood is seen, a place where they have sat is seen, a place where they have lain down is seen.
**"Dangerous"** means: in the monastery or in the vicinity of the monastery, people killed by thieves are seen, people plundered are seen, people beaten are seen.
**"A bhikkhu dwelling in such lodgings"**: a bhikkhu dwelling in lodgings of such a kind.
**"Wishing"** means: desiring.
**"Any one of the three robes"**: the outer robe (saṅghāṭi), the upper robe (uttarāsaṅga), or the lower robe (antaravāsaka).
**"May deposit it within the village"**: he may deposit it in the surrounding alms-resort village (gocaragāma).
**"And should there be some reason for that bhikkhu to be apart from that robe"**: there may be a reason, there may be something to be done.
**"That bhikkhu may stay apart from that robe for six nights at most"**: he may stay apart for six nights at the maximum.
**"Except with the authorization of the bhikkhus"**: setting aside the authorization of the bhikkhus (bhikkhusammati).
**"If he should stay apart longer than that"**: at the rising of the seventh dawn it becomes subject to forfeiture (nissaggiya); it is to be forfeited to a Saṅgha, to a group, or to an individual.
And thus, bhikkhus, should it be forfeited: … "Venerable sirs, this robe of mine, which has been apart [from me] for more than six nights, except with the authorization of the bhikkhus, is subject to forfeiture. I forfeit it to the Saṅgha." … "should give [it back]" … "should give [it back]" … "I give [this robe] to the venerable one."
