[423] There is no offense: if he is giving a recitation (uddesa); if he is giving an examination (paripucchā); if, being told, "Recite, venerable sir," he recites; if he asks a question; if, being asked a question, he answers; if, while he is speaking for the benefit of another, bhikkhunīs listen; if [he instructs] a probationer (sikkhamānā); if [he instructs] a female novice (sāmaṇerī); if he is insane; if he is the first offender (ādikammika).
