[49] **Whoever (yo pana):** whoever — of whatever sort … **Bhikkhu:** … this is the "bhikkhu" intended in this meaning.
**Unrelated (aññātikā)** means: unconnected on the mother's side or on the father's side back through seven generations of paternal ancestry.
**Bhikkhunī** means: one who has been fully ordained in both Saṅghas.
**Robe-cloth (cīvara)** means: any one of the six kinds of robe-cloth, at the minimum a cloth eligible for assignment (vikappana).
**Except in exchange (aññatra pārivaṭṭakā):** setting aside what is exchanged.
**He accepts [it]:** in the act [of accepting] there is an offence of wrongdoing (dukkaṭa); with the obtaining [of the robe-cloth] it becomes subject to forfeiture (nissaggiya). It must be forfeited to a Saṅgha, to a group, or to an individual. "And thus, bhikkhus, it must be forfeited: … 'Venerable sirs, this robe-cloth of mine was accepted from the hand of an unrelated bhikkhunī otherwise than in exchange; it is subject to forfeiture. I forfeit it to the Saṅgha.' … 'should give …' … 'they should give …' … 'I give this to the venerable one.'"
