[607] "Whatever" (*yo pana*): whoever, of whatever sort … "Bhikkhu": … this is the bhikkhu intended in this context.
"Not ill" (*agilāno*) means: one for whom there is comfort without a fire.
"Ill" (*gilāno*) means: one for whom there is no comfort without a fire.
"Seeking to warm himself" (*visīvanāpekkho*): desiring to be warmed.
"Fire" (*joti*) means: what is called fire (*aggi*).
"Should kindle" (*samādaheyya*): if he kindles it himself, there is an offense of pācittiya (āpatti pācittiyassa).
"Should have it kindled" (*samādahāpeyya*): if he commands another, there is an offense of pācittiya. Having been commanded once, even if that one kindles many times, there is an offense of pācittiya.
"Except with a suitable reason" (*aññatra tathārūpapaccayā*): setting aside such a reason.
