[222] Bhikkhus, possessing four qualities, the fool, incompetent and untrue person maintains himself in a maimed and injured condition; he is blameworthy and subject to reproach by the wise, and he generates much demerit. What four? Misconduct by body (kāyaduccarita), misconduct by speech (vacīduccarita), misconduct by mind (manoduccarita), and wrong view (micchādiṭṭhi). Bhikkhus, possessing these four qualities, the fool, incompetent and untrue person maintains himself in a maimed and injured condition; he is blameworthy and subject to reproach by the wise, and he generates much demerit.
Bhikkhus, possessing four qualities, the wise man, competent and true person maintains himself unmaimed and uninjured; he is blameless and beyond reproach by the wise, and he generates much merit. What four? Good conduct by body (kāyasucarita), good conduct by speech (vacīsucarita), good conduct by mind (manosucarita), and right view (sammādiṭṭhi). Bhikkhus, possessing these four qualities, the wise man, competent and true person maintains himself unmaimed and uninjured; he is blameless and beyond reproach by the wise, and he generates much merit.
