[263] "Bhikkhus, possessed of four qualities, a fool, incompetent, a bad person (asappurisa), maintains himself maimed and injured; he is blameworthy and subject to reproach by the wise; and he generates much demerit (apuñña). Which four? Blameworthy bodily action (kāyakamma), blameworthy verbal action (vacīkamma), blameworthy mental action (manokamma), and blameworthy view (diṭṭhi). Possessed of these four qualities, bhikkhus, a fool, incompetent, a bad person, maintains himself maimed and injured; he is blameworthy and subject to reproach by the wise; and he generates much demerit.
"Bhikkhus, possessed of four qualities, a wise person, competent, a good person (sappurisa), maintains himself unmaimed and uninjured; he is blameless and beyond reproach by the wise; and he generates much merit (puñña). Which four? Blameless bodily action, blameless verbal action, blameless mental action, and blameless view. Possessed of these four qualities, bhikkhus, a wise person, competent, a good person, maintains himself unmaimed and uninjured; he is blameless and beyond reproach by the wise; and he generates much merit."
