[264] "Bhikkhus, one possessing four qualities is deposited in hell (niraya) as if brought there. What four? One destroys life (pāṇātipāta) oneself; one encourages others in the destruction of life; one approves of the destruction of life; and one speaks in praise of the destruction of life. Possessing these four qualities, bhikkhus, one is deposited in hell as if brought there.
"Bhikkhus, one possessing four qualities is deposited in heaven (sagga) as if brought there. What four? One abstains from the destruction of life oneself; one encourages others in abstinence from the destruction of life; one approves of abstinence from the destruction of life; and one speaks in praise of abstinence from the destruction of life. Possessing these four qualities, bhikkhus, one is deposited in heaven as if brought there."
