[240] Bhikkhus, one possessing four qualities (dhammā) is deposited in hell (niraya) as if carried and put there. Which four? Afflictive bodily action (sabyāpajjhena kāyakammena), afflictive verbal action (vacīkamma), afflictive mental action (manokamma), and afflictive view (diṭṭhi). Possessing these four qualities, bhikkhus, one is deposited in hell as if carried and put there.
Bhikkhus, one possessing four qualities is deposited in heaven (sagga) as if carried and put there. Which four? Unafflictive bodily action (abyāpajjhena kāyakammena), unafflictive verbal action, unafflictive mental action, and unafflictive view. Possessing these four qualities, bhikkhus, one is deposited in heaven as if carried and put there.
