[354] "Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu possessed of six qualities is incapable of realizing arahantship (arahatta), the foremost state. What six? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is without faith (asaddho), is without moral shame (ahiriko), is without moral dread (anottappī), is lazy (kusīto), is of poor wisdom (duppañño), and is concerned for body and life (kāye ca jīvite ca sāpekkho). Possessed of these six qualities, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is incapable of realizing arahantship, the foremost state.
"Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu possessed of six qualities is capable of realizing arahantship, the foremost state. What six? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu has faith (saddho), has moral shame (hirīmā), has moral dread (ottappī), has aroused energy (āraddhaviriyo), is wise (paññavā), and is unconcerned for body and life (kāye ca jīvite ca anapekkho). Possessed of these six qualities, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is capable of realizing arahantship, the foremost state."
