[353] Bhikkhus, one possessed of six qualities is deposited in hell (niraya) as surely as if carried and placed there. Of which six? He is a speaker of false speech; a speaker of malicious speech; a speaker of harsh speech; an indulger in frivolous talk; he is greedy; and he is impudent. Possessed of these six qualities, bhikkhus, one is deposited in hell as surely as if carried and placed there.
Bhikkhus, one possessed of six qualities is deposited in heaven (sagga) as surely as if carried and placed there. Of which six? He abstains from false speech (musāvāda); he abstains from malicious speech (pisuṇā vācā); he abstains from harsh speech (pharusā vācā); he abstains from frivolous talk (samphappalāpa); he is without greed; and he is not impudent. Possessed of these six qualities, bhikkhus, one is deposited in heaven as surely as if carried and placed there.
