[90] Bhikkhus, for the full understanding (pariññā) of lust (rāga) … for the utter destruction (parikkhaya), for the abandonment (pahāna), for the destruction (khaya), for the vanishing (vaya), for the fading away (virāga), for the cessation of, for the giving up (cāga), for the relinquishment (paṭinissagga) [of lust], these seven dhammas should be developed. For the direct knowledge (abhiññā), for the full understanding, for the utter destruction, for the abandonment, for the destruction, for the fading away, for the cessation of, for the giving up, for the relinquishment of hatred, of delusion, of anger (kodha), of grudging (upanāha), of denigration (makkha), of domineering (palāsa), of envy (issā), of avarice (macchariya), of deceit (māyā), of hypocrisy (sātheyya), of obstinacy (thambha), of contentiousness (sārambha), of conceit (māna), of arrogance (atimāna), of vanity (mada), and of heedlessness (pamāda), these seven dhammas should be developed.
