[177] "Bhikkhus, I shall teach you the state (dhamma) that has suffering (dukkha) as its result (vipāka) and the state that has happiness as its result. Listen to it and attend carefully; I shall speak."
"Yes, venerable sir," those bhikkhus replied to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said this: "And what, bhikkhus, is the state that has suffering as its result? The destruction of life … wrong view. This, bhikkhus, is called the state that has suffering as its result. And what, bhikkhus, is the state that has happiness as its result? Abstinence from the destruction of life … right view. This, bhikkhus, is called the state that has happiness as its result."
