[271] **"What they depend on, that they there declare excellent" (yaṃ nissitā tattha subhāvadānā):** "What they depend on" means: whatever teacher, exposition of the dhamma, group, view (diṭṭhi), practice, or path (magga) they depend on, rely upon, adhere to, have approached, cling to, and are resolved upon. **"There"** means: in their own view, their own acceptance (khanti), their own preference (ruci), their own creed (laddhi). **"Declare excellent"** means: they declare it good, declare it splendid, declare it wise, declare it sagacious, declare it knowledge (ñāṇa), declare it reasoned, declare it characterized, declare it well-grounded, declare it tenable — according to their own creed. Hence, "What they depend on, that they there declare excellent."
