[678] **"Depending on what, there he speaks of it as excellent" (yaṃ nissito tattha subhaṃvadāno):** "Depending on what" — whatever teacher (satthā), exposition of the Dhamma (dhammakkhāna), group (gaṇa), view (diṭṭhi), mode of practice (paṭipadā), or path (magga) he depends upon, relies upon, is attached to, has gone over to, cleaves to, and is resolved upon — thus, "depending on what."
"There" — in his own view, his own acceptance (khanti), his own preference (ruci), his own creed (laddhi).
"Speaks of it as excellent" — he is one who speaks of it as excellent, speaks of it as beautiful, speaks of it as [the doctrine of] the wise, speaks of it as [the doctrine of] the sagacious, speaks of it as [endowed with] knowledge (ñāṇa), speaks in terms of reason, speaks in terms of characteristic, speaks in terms of cause, speaks in terms of ground — according to his own creed. Thus, "depending on what, there he speaks of it as excellent."
