[310] **"And they assert: 'Only this is true'"** means: they assert, speak, declare, explain, and express thus: "The world is eternal; only this is true, anything else is vain." "The world is not eternal … the Tathāgata neither exists nor does not exist after death; only this is true, anything else is vain" — thus they assert, speak, declare, explain, and express. Therefore it is said: **"and they assert: 'Only this is true.'"**
