[361] At that time the Buddha, the Blessed One, was dwelling at Sāvatthī, in the Jetavana, Anāthapiṇḍika's park. Now at that time a certain bhikkhunī, alone with a man, one with one, had a boil that had arisen in the private area (pasākha) lanced. Then that man attempted to violate that bhikkhunī. That bhikkhunī let out a loud cry. The bhikkhunīs, running up, said to that bhikkhunī: "Why, lady, did you cry out?" Then that bhikkhunī informed the bhikkhunīs of this matter.
Those bhikkhunīs who were of few wishes … complained, criticized, and spread it about: "How indeed can a bhikkhunī, alone with a man, one with one, have a boil that has arisen in the private area lanced?" …
"Is it true, bhikkhus, that bhikkhunīs, alone with a man, one with one, have a boil that has arisen in the private area lanced?"
"It is true, Blessed One."
The Buddha, the Blessed One, rebuked them: "How indeed, bhikkhus, could a bhikkhunī, alone with a man, one with one, have a boil that has arisen in the private area lanced? This, bhikkhus, is not for the confidence of those without confidence … And thus, bhikkhus, let the bhikkhunīs recite this training rule (sikkhāpada):
"Whatever bhikkhunī, without having obtained permission from the Saṅgha or a group, alone with a man, one with one, should have a boil or a wound (ruhita) that has arisen in the private area lanced, or cut open, or washed, or smeared with ointment, or bandaged, or unbandaged, there is a pācittiya."
