[407] *If you will not grasp the middle* (majjhe ce no gahessasī ti): "the middle" is said to be the present — form, feeling (vedanā), perception, volitional formations, consciousness. You will not grasp present formations (saṅkhārā) by way of craving (taṇhā) or by way of view (diṭṭhi); you will not seize them, will not adhere to them, will not delight in them, will not cleave to them. Delighting, cleaving, grasping, adherence, and insistence — these you will abandon, dispel, bring to an end, and reduce to non-existence. Hence, "if you will not grasp the middle."
