[602] **"The destruction of craving, free from calamity" (taṇhakkhayamanītikaṃ):** "Craving (taṇhā)" means craving for forms, craving for sounds, craving for odors, craving for tastes, craving for tangibles, craving for mental phenomena (dhammataṇhā).
**"The destruction of craving" (taṇhakkhayaṃ):** the destruction of craving, the destruction of lust, the destruction of hatred, the destruction of delusion, the destruction of destination (gati), the destruction of rearising (upapatti), the destruction of relinking (paṭisandhi), the destruction of existence, the destruction of saṃsāra, the destruction of the round (vaṭṭa).
**"Free from calamity" (anītikaṃ):** "calamity" (īti) is said of the defilements, the aggregates (khandha), and the volitional formations (abhisaṅkhārā). The abandonment of calamity, the stilling of calamity, the relinquishment of calamity, the tranquilization of calamity, is the Deathless, Nibbāna. Hence "the destruction of craving, free from calamity."
