[196] There are enunciations of phrasing and language (byañjana-nirutti-abhilāpā) for pointing out the seven dhammas; there are enunciations of phrasing and language for pointing out the seven meanings (attha). The language expressions (nirutti) of dhammas are one thing; the language expressions of meanings are another. By whatever knowledge (ñāṇa) these various language expressions are known, by that very knowledge these various language expressions are penetrated. Therefore it is said: wisdom concerning diversity of language expressions is the knowledge of the discrimination of language (niruttipaṭisambhidā).
