[30] At that time I was a crocodile (susumāra) on the bank of the river Candabhāgā; intent on seeking my own food,³ I went to a ford of the river.
At that time Siddhattha, the Self-Become One (sayambhū), the supreme person, wishing to cross the river, approached the ford of the river.
And when the Fully Enlightened One had arrived, I too came to that place; having approached the Fully Enlightened One, I uttered these words:
"Mount, O Great Hero, and I shall carry you across; have compassion on my ancestral domain, O Great Sage."
Hearing my cry, the Great Sage mounted; joyful, with a joyful mind, I carried the Leader of the World across.

On the farther bank of the river, Siddhattha, the Leader of the World, there gave me this assurance: "You will attain the Deathless (amata)."
Having passed away from that body, I went to the world of the devas (devaloka); I experienced divine happiness, attended by celestial nymphs (accharā).
And seven times, as lord of the devas, I exercised rulership over the devas; three times I was a wheel-turning monarch (cakkavatti), sovereign over the earth.
Devoted to seclusion (viveka), prudent and well restrained, I bear my final body in the dispensation of the Perfectly Enlightened One.
In the ninety-fourth aeon (kappa) from the present, that I carried across the Bull of Men (narāsabha) — I know of no bad destination (duggati): this is the fruit of the carrying-across.
The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā), and these eight liberations (vimokkha), and the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized; the Buddha's dispensation has been fulfilled.
Thus indeed the Venerable Elder Uttiya spoke these verses.
The Apadāna of the Elder Uttiya is concluded.
