[384] In the city of Bandhumatī I was then a park-keeper (ārāmika);
I saw the stainless Buddha going along the pathway of the wind.
Taking a fruit of the labuja tree, I gave it to the supreme Buddha;
standing in the sky, he of great fame accepted it.
Having given to the Buddha, with a clear and confident mind, that fruit —
a begetter of rapture (pīti)¹ for me, a bringer of happiness in this very life —
I then attained rapture and abundant, supreme happiness;
and wherever² I am reborn, a jewel arises for me.
It was ninety-one aeons from the present that I then gave that fruit;
I know of no bad destination (duggati): this is the fruit of the gift of fruit.
Welcome indeed was my coming into the presence of my Buddha;
the three true knowledges (vijjā) have been attained; the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled.
My defilements (kilesa) have been burned up; all existences (bhava) have been uprooted;
like an elephant that has burst its bonds, I dwell free of taints (āsava).

The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā) and also these eight liberations (vimokkha),
the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized; the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled.
Thus indeed the Venerable Elder Labujadāyaka spoke these verses.
The Apadāna of the Elder Labujadāyaka is concluded.
