[79] Thirty thousand aeons (kappa) ago there was the Fully Enlightened One (sambuddha), the Leader of the World,
Sumedha by name, bearing the thirty-two excellent marks.
To him — golden-hued, the Lord of two-footed beings, the Steadfast One (tādī) —
I gave five needles for the sewing of a robe (cīvara).
Through that very gift of needles there arose in me knowledge (ñāṇa)
discerning subtle meanings — keen, swift, and easeful.
My defilements (kilesa) have been burned away; all existences (bhava) have been eradicated;
I bear my final body in the dispensation (sāsana) of the Fully Self-Enlightened One.
There were four kings named Dipadādhipati,
wheel-turning monarchs (cakkavattī) endowed with the seven treasures, of great power.
The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā), and also these eight liberations (vimokkha),
and the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized; the Buddha's dispensation has been fulfilled.
Thus indeed the Venerable Sūcidāyaka the Elder spoke these verses.
