[146] In the city of Bandhumatī there was a khattiya named Bandhumā;
I was the wife of that king; I would speak with a certain one.
Gone into seclusion and seated, I then thought thus:
"There is no wholesome deed (kusala) done by me that can be taken along [when I go].
Surely I shall go to hell (niraya) — of great burning heat, bitter,
of terrible aspect, utterly dreadful; herein I have no doubt."
Having approached the king, I spoke these words:
"Give me a single ascetic (samaṇa), O khattiya; I shall feed him."
The great king gave me an ascetic with developed faculties (indriya);
taking his bowl, I satisfied him with the finest of food.
Having made an offering of the finest food, I applied perfume and unguent;
covering it over with a net, I veiled it with a yellow cloth.
This was the object (ārammaṇa) of my mind: I recollected it as long as life lasted;
having made my mind (citta) serenely confident in it, I went to Tāvatiṃsa.
For thirty kings of the devas I held the station of chief queen (mahesitta);
whatever I aspired to in mind came into being for me just as I wished.
For twenty wheel-turning monarchs (cakkavatti) I held the station of chief queen;
having become one heaped up [with accumulated merit], I wandered on through existence upon existence.
I am released from every bond; what makes for grasping (upādikā) has departed from me;
with all taints (āsava) utterly exhausted, there is now no renewed existence (punabbhava).
In the ninety-first aeon (kappa) from the present, when I gave that gift,
I know of no bad destination (duggati): this is the fruit of almsfood (piṇḍapāta).
My defilements (kilesa) have been burned away; all existences have been extirpated;
like a she-elephant that has burst her bonds, I dwell free of taints.
Welcome indeed was it for me in the presence of the Best of Buddhas!
The three true knowledges (vijjā) have been attained; the Buddha's teaching has been done.
The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā) and also these eight liberations (vimokkha),
the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized; the Buddha's teaching has been done.
Thus indeed did the bhikkhunī Ekapiṇḍapātadāyikā speak these verses.
Here ends the Apadāna of the Therī Ekapiṇḍapātadāyikā.
