[272] Which phenomena (dhammā) are wholesome? On the occasion when one develops the supramundane (lokuttara) jhāna — leading out (niyyānika), tending to dispersion (apacayagāmī) — for the abandoning (pahāna) without remainder of sensual lust (kāmarāga) and ill will (byāpāda), for the attainment of the third stage (bhūmi): quite secluded from sensual pleasures … one enters and dwells in the first jhāna, of painful practice and sluggish direct knowledge (dukkhāpaṭipadaṃ dandhābhiññaṃ) — on that occasion there is contact (phassa) … there is the faculty of perfect knowledge (aññindriya) … there is non-distraction (avikkhepa) …
These phenomena are wholesome. …
