[417] Which phenomena (dhammā) are indeterminate (abyākata)? On the occasion when one develops the path for rebirth in form (rūpūpapatti): quite secluded from sensual pleasures … one enters and dwells in the first jhāna, [with] the earth kasiṇa (paṭhavīkasiṇa) — on that occasion there is contact (phassa) … there is non-distraction (avikkhepa) … These phenomena are wholesome. Because that same wholesome form-sphere (rūpāvacara) kamma has been done and accumulated, [as its] result (vipāka): quite secluded from sensual pleasures … one enters and dwells in the first jhāna, [with] the earth kasiṇa — on that occasion there is contact … there is non-distraction … These phenomena are indeterminate. Which phenomena are indeterminate? On the occasion when one develops the path for rebirth in form: with the subsiding of thought-conception (vitakka) and discursive thought (vicāra) … the second jhāna … the third jhāna … the fourth jhāna … the first jhāna … one enters and dwells in the fifth jhāna, [with] the earth kasiṇa — on that occasion there is contact … there is non-distraction … These phenomena are wholesome. Because that same wholesome form-sphere kamma has been done and accumulated, [as its] result: with the abandonment of pleasure and … one enters and dwells in the fifth jhāna, [with] the earth kasiṇa — on that occasion there is contact … there is non-distraction … These phenomena are indeterminate. … ____________________ Form-Sphere Resultants.
