[434] Which phenomena (dhammā) are indeterminate (abyākata)?
On the occasion when one develops supramundane jhāna (lokuttara jhāna) that leads out (of the round) (niyyānika) and conduces to dispersal (apacayagāmī), for the abandoning of wrong views (diṭṭhigata), for the attainment of the first plane (bhūmi): with the stilling of thought-conception and discursive thought (vitakka-vicāra) … the second jhāna … the third jhāna … the fourth jhāna … the first jhāna … one enters and dwells in the fifth jhāna, "of painful progress and sluggish superknowledge (dukkhāpaṭipadā dandhābhiññā), emptiness (suññata)" — thus the wholesome (kusala) … "of painful progress and sluggish superknowledge, emptiness" — thus the resultant (vipāka) … "of painful progress and sluggish superknowledge, emptiness" — thus the wholesome … "of painful progress and sluggish superknowledge, signless (animitta)" — thus the resultant … "of painful progress and sluggish superknowledge, emptiness" — thus the wholesome … "of painful progress and sluggish superknowledge, desireless (appaṇihita)" — thus the resultant; on that occasion there is contact (phassa) … there is non-distraction (avikkhepa) …
