[444] Which phenomena (dhammā) are indeterminate (abyākata)?
On the occasion when one develops the supramundane jhāna (lokuttaraṃ jhānaṃ) — leading out [of the round], going to dispersion (niyyānikaṃ apacayagāmiṃ) — for the abandonment of views (diṭṭhigata), for the attainment of the first plane (bhūmi): quite secluded from sensual pleasures … one enters and dwells in the first jhāna, of painful practice and swift superknowledge (dukkhāpaṭipadaṃ khippābhiññaṃ), desireless (appaṇihita) … of pleasant practice and sluggish superknowledge, desireless … of pleasant practice and swift superknowledge, desireless … the second jhāna … the third jhāna … the fourth jhāna … the first jhāna … one enters and dwells in the fifth jhāna, of pleasant practice and swift superknowledge, desireless — [this is] the wholesome (kusala); … of pleasant practice and swift superknowledge, desireless — [this is] the resultant (vipāka); … of pleasant practice and swift superknowledge, desireless — [this is] the wholesome; … of pleasant practice and swift superknowledge, signless (animitta) — [this is] the resultant; … of pleasant practice and swift superknowledge, desireless — [this is] the wholesome; … of pleasant practice and swift superknowledge, void (suññata) — [this is] the resultant. On that occasion there is contact (phassa) … there is non-distraction (avikkhepa) … These phenomena are indeterminate.
