[435] Which phenomena (dhammā) are indeterminate (abyākata)?
On the occasion when one develops the supramundane (lokuttara) jhāna that leads out (niyyānika) and is conducive to dismantling (apacayagāmī), for the abandonment of views (diṭṭhigata), for the attainment of the first plane (bhūmi): quite secluded from sensual pleasures … one enters upon and dwells in the first jhāna, of painful progress (dukkhā paṭipadā) and quick superknowledge (khippābhiññā), emptiness (suññata) … of pleasant progress (sukhā paṭipadā) and sluggish superknowledge (dandhābhiññā), emptiness … of pleasant progress and quick superknowledge, emptiness … the second jhāna … the third jhāna … the fourth jhāna … the first jhāna … one enters upon and dwells in the fifth jhāna, of pleasant progress and quick superknowledge, emptiness — as the wholesome (kusala) … of pleasant progress and quick superknowledge, emptiness — as the resultant (vipāka) … of pleasant progress and quick superknowledge, emptiness — as the wholesome … of pleasant progress and quick superknowledge, signlessness (animitta) — as the resultant … of pleasant progress and quick superknowledge, emptiness — as the wholesome … of pleasant progress and quick superknowledge, desirelessness (appaṇihita) — as the resultant; on that occasion there is contact (phassa) … there is non-distraction (avikkhepa) … These phenomena are indeterminate.
