[436] Which phenomena (dhammā) are indeterminate (abyākata)?
On the occasion when one develops the supramundane (lokuttara) jhāna — leading out (niyyānika), tending to dispersal (apacayagāmī) — for the abandonment of wrong views (diṭṭhigata), for the attainment of the first plane (bhūmi), and, quite secluded from sensual pleasures … attains and dwells in the first jhāna, the desireless (appaṇihita): on that occasion there is contact (phassa) … there is non-distraction (avikkhepa) … These phenomena are wholesome (kusala).
As the result (vipāka) of that same supramundane wholesome jhāna, because it has been done, because it has been developed: quite secluded from sensual pleasures … one attains and dwells in the first jhāna, the desireless — on that occasion there is contact … there is non-distraction … These phenomena are indeterminate.
