Suññatavāra

Abhidhammapiṭaka · Dhammasaṅgaṇī · Vol. 34 · Section 455

[455] Which phenomena (dhammā) are indeterminate (abyākata)? On the occasion when one develops the supramundane (lokuttara) jhāna — emancipating (niyyānika), conducing to the dismantling [of rebirth] (apacayagāmī) — for the abandoning of views (diṭṭhigata), for the attainment of the first plane (bhūmi): quite secluded from sensual pleasures … he enters upon and dwells in the first jhāna — of painful practice and sluggish direct knowledge (dukkhāpaṭipada-dandhābhiñña), of emptiness (suññata), with zeal as the dominant factor (chandādhipateyya) — on that occasion there is contact (phassa) … there is non-distraction (avikkhepa) … These phenomena are wholesome (kusala). As the result (vipāka) of that same supramundane wholesome jhāna's having been done, having been developed: quite secluded from sensual pleasures … he enters upon and dwells in the first jhāna — of painful practice and sluggish direct knowledge, of emptiness, with zeal as the dominant factor — on that occasion there is contact … there is non-distraction … These phenomena are indeterminate.
