Suññatavāra

Abhidhammapiṭaka · Dhammasaṅgaṇī · Vol. 34 · Section 451

[451] Which phenomena (dhammā) are indeterminate (abyākata)? On the occasion when one develops supramundane (lokuttara) jhāna — leading out [of the round] (niyyānika), conducing to dismantling (apacayagāmī) — for the abandoning of views (diṭṭhigata), for the attainment of the first plane (bhūmi): quite secluded from sensual pleasures … one enters and dwells in the first jhāna, the emptiness [kind] (suññata), with zeal as the dominant influence (chandādhipateyya) — on that occasion there is contact (phassa) … there is non-distraction (avikkhepa) … These phenomena are wholesome (kusala). Because that same supramundane wholesome jhāna has been done, has been developed, [as its] result (vipāka): quite secluded from sensual pleasures … one enters and dwells in the first jhāna, the emptiness [kind], with zeal as the dominant influence — on that occasion there is contact … there is non-distraction … These phenomena are indeterminate.
