Suññatavāra

Abhidhammapiṭaka · Dhammasaṅgaṇī · Vol. 34 · Section 452

[452] Which phenomena (dhammā) are indeterminate (abyākata)? On whatever occasion one develops supramundane (lokuttara) jhāna — leading out, conducing to dispersion — for the abandonment of wrong views (diṭṭhigata), for the attainment of the first plane (bhūmi): quite secluded from sensual pleasures … one enters and dwells in the first jhāna, which is emptiness (suññata), with zeal as the dominant influence (chandādhipateyya) — on that occasion there is contact (phassa) … there is non-distraction (avikkhepa) … these phenomena are wholesome. As the result (vipāka) of that very supramundane wholesome jhāna — because it has been done, has been developed — quite secluded from sensual pleasures … one enters and dwells in the first jhāna, which is signless (animitta), with zeal as the dominant influence — on that occasion there is contact … there is non-distraction … these phenomena are indeterminate.
