[547] What is that form (rūpa) which is a great essential (mahābhūta)? The tangible sense base (phoṭṭhabbāyatana), the water element (āpodhātu) — this is that form which is a great essential. What is that form which is not a great essential? The eye sense base (cakkhāyatana) … edible nutriment (kabaḷiṃkāra āhāra) — this is that form which is not a great essential.
