[695] Which phenomena (dhammā) are not roots (na hetū)? Setting aside those phenomena, the remaining wholesome, unwholesome, and indeterminate (abyākata) phenomena, belonging to the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), the form sphere (rūpāvacara), the formless sphere (arūpāvacara), or unincluded (apariyāpanna); the aggregate of feeling (vedanākkhandha) … the aggregate of consciousness (viññāṇakkhandha); and all form (rūpa), and the unconditioned element (asaṅkhatā dhātu) — these phenomena are not roots.
