Greed (lobha) is both a root and, through delusion (moha), accompanied by a root; delusion is both a root and, through greed, accompanied by a root; hatred (dosa) is both a root and, through delusion, accompanied by a root; delusion is both a root and, through hatred, accompanied by a root; non-greed (alobha), non-hatred (adosa), and non-delusion (amoha) — these are mutually both roots and accompanied by roots. These phenomena are both roots and accompanied by roots.

Those phenomena that are accompanied by roots through those [root] phenomena — setting aside those [root] phenomena — namely: the aggregate of feeling (vedanākkhandha) … the aggregate of consciousness (viññāṇakkhandha). These phenomena are accompanied by roots but not roots.
