[794] Therein, what is delusion (moha)?
Lack of knowledge (aññāṇa) regarding suffering (dukkha), lack of knowledge regarding the origin of suffering, lack of knowledge regarding the cessation of suffering, lack of knowledge regarding the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering, lack of knowledge regarding the past, lack of knowledge regarding the future, lack of knowledge regarding both the past and the future, lack of knowledge regarding phenomena (dhammā) dependently arisen through specific conditionality (idappaccayatā) — that which is of such a kind: lack of knowledge, non-seeing, non-comprehension, non-understanding, non-awakening, non-penetration, failure to grasp, failure to fathom, non-consideration, non-reviewing, absence of direct realization, dull-wittedness, foolishness, lack of clear comprehension, delusion, bewilderment, utter delusion, ignorance (avijjā), the flood of ignorance, the bond of ignorance, the latent tendency of ignorance, the obsession of ignorance, the bar of ignorance, delusion the unwholesome root — this is called delusion.
