[970] Which phenomena (dhammā) are to be abandoned by seeing (dassanena pahātabbā)? The four arisings of mind (cittuppāda) associated with views (diṭṭhigata-sampayutta), and the arising of mind accompanied by doubt (vicikicchā) — these phenomena are to be abandoned by seeing.
The four arisings of mind dissociated from views and accompanied by greed (lobha), and the two arisings of mind accompanied by grief (domanassa) — these phenomena are sometimes to be abandoned by seeing, sometimes not to be abandoned by seeing.
Which phenomena are not to be abandoned by seeing? The arising of mind accompanied by restlessness (uddhacca); the wholesome (kusala) in the four planes (bhūmi); the resultant (vipāka) in the four planes; the functional indeterminate (kiriyā-abyākata) in the three planes; and form (rūpa) and Nibbāna — these phenomena are not to be abandoned by seeing.
