[969] Which phenomena (dhammā) are dissociated from defilements (kilesavippayutta) but subject to defilement (saṅkilesika)? The wholesome (kusala) in the three planes (bhūmi), the resultant (vipāka) in the three planes, the functional indeterminate (kiriyābyākata) in the three planes, and all form (rūpa) — these phenomena are dissociated from defilements but subject to defilement.
Which phenomena are dissociated from defilements and not subject to defilement? The four paths (magga), which are unincluded (apariyāpanna), and the four fruits of the monkhood (sāmaññaphala), and Nibbāna — these phenomena are dissociated from defilements and not subject to defilement.
Phenomena associated with defilements (kilesa-sampayutta) are not to be described either as "dissociated from defilements but subject to defilement" or as "dissociated from defilements and not subject to defilement."
