[978] Which phenomena (dhammā) are accompanied by pleasure (sukha)?
Four arisings of mind (cittuppāda) accompanied by joy (somanassa) as sense-sphere (kāmāvacara) wholesome (kusala); four as unwholesome (akusala); six as resultants (vipāka) of the sense-sphere wholesome; five as functional (kiriyā); the form-sphere (rūpāvacara) jhānas of the triad and tetrad (tikacatukkajjhāna) as wholesome, as resultant, and as functional; the supramundane (lokuttara) jhānas of the triad and tetrad as wholesome and as resultant — setting aside the pleasure arisen herein — these phenomena are accompanied by pleasure.

Four arisings of mind accompanied by equanimity (upekkhā) as sense-sphere wholesome; eight as unwholesome; ten as resultants of the sense-sphere wholesome; seven as resultants of the unwholesome; six as functional; the form-sphere fourth jhāna as wholesome, as resultant, and as functional; the four formless states (āruppa) as wholesome, as resultant, and as functional; the supramundane fourth jhāna as wholesome and as resultant; and pleasure, form (rūpa), and Nibbāna — these phenomena are not accompanied by pleasure.
