[879] Which phenomena (dhammā) are associated (sampayutta) with pleasant feeling (vedanā)?
The four arisings of mind (cittuppāda) accompanied by joy (somanassa) on the side of the sense-sphere wholesome (kāmāvacara-kusala); four on the side of the unwholesome (akusala); five [each] on the side of the resultant (vipāka) of the sense-sphere wholesome and on the side of the functional (kiriya); the form-sphere (rūpāvacara) jhānas of the triad and the tetrad [i.e., the three jhānas of the fourfold reckoning and the four jhānas of the fivefold reckoning] on the side of the wholesome, of the resultant, and of the functional; and the supramundane (lokuttara) jhānas of the triad and the tetrad on the side of the wholesome and of the resultant — setting aside the pleasant feeling that has arisen therein, these phenomena are associated with pleasant feeling.

The two arisings of mind accompanied by grief (domanassa), and body-consciousness (kāyaviññāṇa) accompanied by pain — setting aside the painful feeling that has arisen therein, these phenomena are associated with painful feeling.
Which phenomena are associated with neither-painful-nor-pleasant feeling?
The four arisings of mind accompanied by equanimity (upekkhā) on the side of the sense-sphere wholesome; six on the side of the unwholesome; ten on the side of the resultant of the sense-sphere wholesome; six on the side of the resultant of the unwholesome; six on the side of the functional; the fourth jhāna of the form sphere on the side of the wholesome, of the resultant, and of the functional; the four formless states (āruppa) on the side of the wholesome, of the resultant, and of the functional; and the supramundane fourth jhāna on the side of the wholesome and of the resultant — setting aside the neither-painful-nor-pleasant feeling that has arisen therein, these phenomena are associated with neither-painful-nor-pleasant feeling.
And the three feelings, form (rūpa), and Nibbāna — these phenomena cannot be said to be either "associated with pleasant feeling," or "associated with painful feeling," or "associated with neither-painful-nor-pleasant feeling."
