[139] Seventeen elements (dhātu) are not misapprehensions (parāmāsa); the dhamma element (dhammadhātu) sometimes is a misapprehension, sometimes is not a misapprehension. Sixteen elements are misapprehended (parāmaṭṭha); two elements sometimes are misapprehended, sometimes are not misapprehended (aparāmaṭṭha). Sixteen elements are dissociated from misapprehension (parāmāsa-vippayutta); the mind-consciousness element (manoviññāṇa-dhātu) sometimes is associated with misapprehension (parāmāsa-sampayutta), sometimes is dissociated from misapprehension; the dhamma element sometimes is associated with misapprehension, sometimes is dissociated from misapprehension, sometimes should not be described either as associated with misapprehension or as dissociated from misapprehension. Sixteen elements should not be described as "both misapprehensions and misapprehended"; they are misapprehended but not misapprehensions. The mind-consciousness element should not be described as "both a misapprehension and misapprehended"; sometimes it is misapprehended but not a misapprehension, sometimes it should not be described as "misapprehended but not a misapprehension." The dhamma element sometimes is both a misapprehension and misapprehended, sometimes is misapprehended but not a misapprehension, sometimes should not be described either as "both a misapprehension and misapprehended" or as "misapprehended but not a misapprehension."
