[590] The five-factored path (pañcaṅgika magga): right view (sammādiṭṭhi), right thought (sammāsaṅkappa), right effort (sammāvāyāma), right mindfulness (sammāsati), right concentration (sammāsamādhi). Therein, which is right view? Here a bhikkhu, on whatever occasion he develops supramundane (lokuttara) jhāna — emancipating (niyyānika), leading to the dismantling (apacayagāmī) — for the abandoning of wrong views (diṭṭhigata), for the attainment of the first plane (bhūmi): quite secluded from sensual pleasures … he enters and dwells in the first jhāna, of painful practice and slow direct knowledge (dukkhāpaṭipadaṃ dandhābhiññaṃ) — that which on that occasion is wisdom (paññā), understanding (pajānanā), … non-delusion (amoha), investigation of dhammas (dhammavicaya), right view, the investigation-of-dhammas factor of awakening (dhammavicaya-sambojjhaṅga), a path factor (maggaṅga), included in the path (maggapariyāpanna): this is called right view. The remaining phenomena (dhammā) are associated (sampayutta) with right view. … The remaining phenomena are associated with right thought. … The remaining phenomena are associated with right effort. … The remaining phenomena are associated with right mindfulness. Therein, which is right concentration? Here a bhikkhu, on whatever occasion he develops supramundane jhāna — emancipating, leading to the dismantling — for the abandoning of wrong views, for the attainment of the first plane: quite secluded from sensual pleasures … he enters and dwells in the first jhāna, of painful practice and slow direct knowledge — that which on that occasion is stability of mind (cittassa ṭhiti), … right concentration, the concentration factor of awakening (samādhi-sambojjhaṅga), a path factor, included in the path: this is called right concentration. The remaining phenomena are associated with right concentration.
