[715] Here a bhikkhu, at the time when he develops the path (magga) for rebirth in form (rūpūpapatti): quite secluded from sensual pleasures … he enters and dwells in the first jhāna, [on] the earth kasiṇa (paṭhavīkasiṇa) — at that time there is jhāna of five factors: applied thought (vitakka), sustained thought (vicāra), rapture (pīti), pleasure (sukha), one-pointedness of mind (cittassa ekaggatā). This is called the first jhāna. The remaining phenomena (dhammā) are associated with the jhāna.
