[832] The knowledge (ñāṇa) of one possessed of the path (maggasamaṅgī) is also knowledge of aging-and-death (jarāmaraṇa); is also knowledge of the origin (samudaya) of aging-and-death; is also knowledge of the cessation (nirodha) of aging-and-death; is also knowledge of the way of practice (paṭipadā) leading to the cessation of aging-and-death.
Therein, what is knowledge of aging-and-death? The wisdom (paññā), understanding (pajānanā), … non-delusion (amoha), investigation of dhammas (dhammavicaya), right view (sammādiṭṭhi) that arises with reference to aging-and-death — this is called knowledge of aging-and-death. With reference to the origin of aging-and-death … with reference to the cessation of aging-and-death … the wisdom, understanding, … non-delusion, investigation of dhammas, right view that arises with reference to the way of practice leading to the cessation of aging-and-death — this is called knowledge of the way of practice leading to the cessation of aging-and-death.
The knowledge of one possessed of the path is also knowledge of birth (jāti) … is also knowledge of existence (bhava) … is also knowledge of clinging (upādāna) … is also knowledge of craving (taṇhā) … is also knowledge of feeling (vedanā) … is also knowledge of contact (phassa) … is also knowledge of the six sense bases (saḷāyatana) … is also knowledge of name-and-form (nāmarūpa) … is also knowledge of consciousness (viññāṇa) … is also knowledge of volitional formations (saṅkhārā); is also knowledge of the origin of volitional formations; is also knowledge of the cessation of volitional formations; is also knowledge of the way of practice leading to the cessation of volitional formations.
Therein, what is knowledge of volitional formations? The wisdom, understanding, … non-delusion, investigation of dhammas, right view that arises with reference to volitional formations — this is called knowledge of volitional formations. With reference to the origin of volitional formations … with reference to the cessation of volitional formations … the wisdom, understanding, … non-delusion, investigation of dhammas, right view that arises with reference to the way of practice leading to the cessation of volitional formations — this is called knowledge of the way of practice leading to the cessation of volitional formations.
Thus the bases of knowledge (ñāṇavatthu) by way of the fourfold [classification].
