[885] Therein, what is the conceit (māna) "I am inferior"?
Here someone, by birth, or by clan, or by being of good family, or by beauty of complexion, or by wealth, or by study, or by sphere of work, or by sphere of craft, or by branch of knowledge, or by learning, or by ready wit — by one ground or another — gives rise to self-disparagement (omāna). That which is of such a kind: self-disparagement, the act of disparaging oneself, the state of having disparaged oneself, self-scorn, utter self-scorn, the state of utter self-scorn, self-derogation, self-disdain, self-contempt — this is called the conceit "I am inferior."
