[898] Therein, what is self-contempt (omāna)?
Here someone, on account of birth, or clan, or good-family standing, or beauty of complexion, or wealth, or study, or sphere of work, or sphere of craft, or branch of knowledge, or learning, or ready wit — on one or another ground — conceives self-contempt. That which is self-contempt of such a kind: self-disparaging, the state of self-disparagement, scorning, despising, the state of despising, contempt for oneself, disdain for oneself, belittling of oneself — this is called self-contempt.
